Philippe Coutinho has been mocked by the League One club following his loan move to Qatar.

Former Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho was mocked by League One side Stevenage FC when he joined Qatar’s Al-Duhail on loan from Aston Villa.

Coutinhowas Liverpool’s star man between 2013 and 2018, scoring 54 goals and providing 45 assists in 201 appearances for the Reds. He then left Anfield to join Barcelona in a mammoth deal worth £142m, but injury problems and poor form further limited his chances as he was sent out on loan to Bayern Munich and then Aston Villa.

Villasigned Coutinho on a permanent deal last year, but that didn’t work out with the Brazilian Premier League club and he now joins Qatar’s Al-Duhail on loan until the end of the season.

Stevenagecould not resist targeting Coutinho after the League One club knocked Villa out of the FA Cup last season with a 2-1 win. “They finally found him,” Stevenage tweeted a picture of Coutinho playing against them in the FA Cup, mocking his poor performance. Stevenage have started the season strongly in the third tier of English football, winning four of their six league games and sit third in the table. Meanwhile, Coutinho is hoping for a fresh start after falling down the pecking order at Villa under Unai Emery.

The31-year-old, who signed for the club under previous manager Steven Gerrard, has played just twice for Villa this season. Coutinho has 68 caps for Brazil but has not played for his country since June 2022 and missed the World Cup in Qatar.
