Liverpool want 70 million euros for the South American prodigy with a huge statement of intent:
Liverpool are on the hunt for a South American superstar who could help turn their fortunes around and could hint at the club’s future direction.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp greets the fans after the Premier League match between Liverpool FC and Aston Villa at Anfield on May 20, 2023 in Liverpool, England. Liverpool are ready to make a statement on behalf of the South American star this January.
The Reds have started the season consistently and open their account with four wins out of five. But while the striker has looked impressive, the defense has been a bit more concerned, with Virgil van Dijk sent off against Newcastle United and young talent Jarrel Quansah getting mixed up earlier this season. Despite reports linking Liverpool with centre-backs in the summer, Jurgen Klopp has instead opted to bolster the midfield with four new players – but that could change with a full-back swap. Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk walks off the field after being sent off against Newcastle in the Premier League in August 2023. Bayer Leverkusen star Piero Hincapie is a big target, according to Fichajes. The Ecuadorian is capable at centre-back and on the left wing and would be a huge addition to the Reds’ current squad.
Fichajes had previously touted the star in Van Dijk’s position, with the Dutchman sliding to the right to cover Trent Alexander-Arnold’s switch to midfield, according to Football365. Interestingly, however, this can be a movement that looks as much to the future as to the present. Hincapie has plenty of experience working under a man the Merseysiders know well, Xabi Alonso. The Spaniard has been a tangible success at Leverkusen and has already been touted by Reds fans as a potential long-term successor to Klopp in the Anfield dugout.
Ecuador’s Piero Hincapie poses during the official FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 portrait session on November 16, 2022 in Doha, Qatar. Piero Hincapie has been linked with Liverpool. Alonso has not been in Germany long, but Klopp’s contract expires in 2025. Hincapie was an integral part of the Basque boss, playing both as a left central defender and as a defender in Alonso’s 3-4-3 formation. Transfermarkt values the 21-year-old at 35 million euros.
