Jurgen Klopp explains Wataru Endo’s comments as LFC boss admits he is not happy.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has clarified his comments about new boy Wataru Endo, with Klopp insisting he is happy with the midfielder’s start to life at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp has answered questions about Liverpool new boy Wataru Endo. Endo, 30, has emerged as a surprise transfer target for the Reds after they lost the services of Fabinho to Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ittihad. Since the switch to Stuttgart from the Premier League, the Japanese have come alive at Anfield.
Klopp raised eyebrows when he claimed Endo’s “very calm and polite” “paid off for him in the first two weeks” ahead of the midfielder’s impressive display in Wednesday night’s 3-1 Carabao Cup win against Leicester City . The German has now clarified those comments, saying he was not surprised to see the veteran star in midweek. Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Tottenham on Saturday night, Klopp also stressed that any new signing needs time to settle.
He said: “I wasn’t surprised [by his performance]. I wasn’t very happy with the way I described the situation [with his previous comments about Endo]. I’m not a native speaker. Dom and Macca just came in and clicked . If we don’t give people more time, what kind of world is this? Endo is a top guy. “All the attention was on Dominik [Szoboszlai]’s goal, but the pass was just as good. Top, top pass. Those passes we missed before are the truth. Endo is in a good way and I’m very glad that he shows that in the second half.
Endo played the full 90 minutes against the Foxes in midweek. It remains to be seen if he keeps his place in the team against a Spurs side that has been strengthened by new manager Ange Postecoglou. Klopp praised the Australian ahead of the match, adding: “Tottenham are doing very well. Ange seems to be a top man. I look forward to meeting him.
“I’m pretty sure everyone already knew when you’ve seen Celtic play over the last few years what kind of manager he is and who he is when he got to Tottenham where I think they all wanted attacking football desperately and he’s clearly delivering that.”
– In the year Harry Kane left the club, he is doing very well. They are a well-established team. It’s exciting to watch, so yeah, it’s a real test for both of us.
