Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been accused of exposing Alexis MacAllister
Liverpool made Mac Allister their first signing of the summer in June. They activated a clause in his Brighton contract to complete the deal for just £35m.
He has started every Premier League game so far this season, often as a deeper member of the midfield trio. Mac Allister made a name for himself at Brighton and internationally as the number eight goalscorer.
Enrique is disappointed to see the 24-year-old not playing in his natural position. He says it has left Liverpool defensive at times and he has urged Klopp to sign an extraordinary No.6.
Enrique told Grosvenor Sport: “Alexis MacAllister has been a disappointment for me because he hasn’t played in his normal position at Liverpool since this season. He’s eight and has always been eight and that’s why he’s been six. .
Liverpool News: Alexis MacAllister has been forced to play at number six this season
“The problem with Liverpool is that they don’t have a starting number six at the moment, that’s why he plays there. He doesn’t play in his position, he’s not a number six, that’s the truth. “Liverpool play really high and are not known for their defensive skills. Jürgen Klopp knows that too, but he needs to get a player as a number six so that Mac Allister can get back into his role as a number eight.”
In a press conference earlier this month, Klopp was asked what Mac Allister’s best position would be. But he insisted he hadn’t even thought about it and was happy to play with him somewhere in midfield.
The German replied: “No, we haven’t even looked for his best position yet, we’ll use him. He’s a fantastic player. I love everything about him, very intelligent, tactically and off the field.
