Liverpool’s midfield looks much better than last season. Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have settled in smoothly from day one, while Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo have shown that they too have a lot to offer. But according to The Athletic, Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool manager still believe the Reds’ midfield is missing something. Namely one Thiago Alcantara. Thiago has not been seen in a Liverpool shirt since April when he came off the bench in a cameo against West Ham United. The 32-year-old later underwent surgery and was apparently back on track before succumbing to another, unnamed injury. It is now being reported that The Athletic claim that Klopp and his squad “discussed how useful Thiago’s presence in midfield would have been this season”. The manager is said to want the Spaniard’s “cunning and creativity” in midfield. Aren’t they all, Jürgen. Aren’t we all? Liverpool are missing Thiago Liverpool’s magical number 6 has been very easy to forget at times this season. Grooming a fresh midfield felt like a transition from old to new at Anfield. But while his former midfielders have left the scene, Thiago remains. Only While supporters like Gravenberch and Szoboszlai have been enthralled, the former Barcelona man certainly has his fair share. Klopp recently called him “exceptional” and given the way the boss talks about Thiago, you can expect to see him in Liverpool’s starting midfield trio when he is finally fit. All this, of course, depends on how the player himself goes. At times it seemed we would never see Thiago play for Liverpool again. Three games short of a performance of centuries would be a real shame. Despite interest in him in the summer, Thiago decided to stay at Liverpool this summer as he believed he still has a big role to play at the club. Everything that has happened since then has prevented this from happening. But it’s nice to hear that Master is still on the mind of the coaching staff. He will return and we will wait.
