Jurgen Klopp has hinted that Joel Matip could be out for several weeks for Liverpool after picking up an injury against Fulham earlier today. The 32-year-old defender came off the field in the second half after noticing a problem, and the Anfield boss has now confirmed to the Liverpool Echo that Matip could be sidelined for some time. With Ibrahima Konate struggling with injuries at Liverpool in recent weeks, Matip’s absence will be a big problem for the Reds going into the festive season. Indeed, Liverpool’s massive schedule is well known at the moment and missing a player like Matip could force Klopp to use limited funds in the January transfer window. And the German manager has now confirmed that the injury could be a bad one that no Liverpool fan wants to hear about, although Matip could be a secondary centre-back. Klopp said: “We lost Joel today and of course we don’t have a scan yet, but after what you hear and see, it’s not short. It’s his knee. Unfortunately, but we have to get over it.” Joel Matip’s potential long-term injury is a huge problem for Liverpool Matip may not be every Liverpool fan’s cup of tea, but there’s no denying that the former Schalke 04 defender has proven himself for the Reds over the years. And the centre-back being sidelined for an extended period could be devastating for Liverpool, with potential transfer plans likely to be delayed if Matip is sidelined for some time. With the defender expected to be on Liverpool’s transfer list as early as January, Matip’s injury could overshadow the Reds as the winter window approaches. And fans will be hoping that Matip is fit enough to return later this month, especially as the Reds have plenty of games to play.
