Liverpool will receive a huge blow as Matip is seriously injured
Liverpool have been dealt a massive blow as Joel Matip has been forced to miss the rest of the season with a serious knee injury. The African has played regular first-team football for Liverpool this season and looked set to be Jurgen Klopp’s first choice at centre-back alongside Virgil van Dijk. However, Matip has now torn his anterior cruciate ligament and will miss the rest of the season. So the Merseyside club will be hoping Konate can stay fit for the rest of the season and help his team reach their lofty goals. With Andy Robertson also injured at the moment, Liverpool now have two major injury problems in defence. Klopp is also missing Alisson Becker, Thiago Alcantara, Diogo Jota and Stefan Bajetic, while Alexis MacAllister picked up a knee problem against Sheffield United. The Merseyside club have enjoyed a brilliant campaign this season. However, it remains to be seen whether the Anfield club can be at their best in the coming months amid injury problems while seven players are sidelined. Meanwhile, Liverpool face Crystal Palace in the Premier League next weekend after a comfortable 2-0 win over Sheffield United.
