Liverpool are now considering a number of signings from the same country, including a £52m player
Liverpool are exploring opportunities in the Portuguese league ahead of the January transfer window. With the new year around the corner, rumors are starting to spread that the Reds are in a trade. With that in mind, The Daily Mail reported an interesting piece of information this week. First, they argue that Liverpool’s business is likely to depend on the success of rival clubs in Europe. It is said that there is a greater chance of scoring a goal if the player’s club has been relegated from, say, the Champions League. The Reds are also said to be eyeing a number of Portuguese Primeira Liga players. Liverpool have already signed Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez from Porto and Benfica respectively and are said to be ready to return for more. Goncalo Inacio in particular is mentioned, but the 22-year-old is not the only one the Reds are said to be considering. Liverpool looked to Portugal again Liverpool are clearly big fans of the talent currently being produced and developed in Portugal. Diaz started it and Nunez followed soon after. And apart from Inacio, they have also been linked with the likes of Florentino Luis and previously Matheus Nunes and Enzo Fernandez. While Portugal certainly have some exciting players, we may be questioning this approach at this point. Transfers from Benfica, Porto or Sporting to England were a challenge for all Diaz, Nunez, Matheus and Enzo. Diaz and Nunez have obviously shown very good things since their arrival in 2022. But right now, neither is flashy or even threatening. Both are capable and exciting players but have not fully developed at Liverpool. Nunes is another who has struggled. After a mixed season at Wolves, the 25-year-old hasn’t smelled much at Manchester City this year either. Meanwhile, Enzo looked good for Chelsea. But after almost a year in the country, the Argentine barely won with the Blues. That’s why we’re a little wary of taking care of Liverpool’s wallets here. Diaz, Nunez, Matheus and Enzo will cost a total of around £260m direct from Portugal. Inacio’s £52 million release clause is also stiff. If there are no discoveries anywhere, we better stay here, rednecks.
