Bergkamp disagrees with Carragher over Liverpool’s title chances

Dennis Bergkamp disagrees with Jamie Carragher on this season’s most likely title challengers. It has been an intriguing Championship so far, with Arsenal now back on top but only one point ahead of both Liverpool and Aston Villa. Meanwhile, reigning champions Manchester City are five points off the leaders. Liverpool were in the lead until last weekend and they are still in the title race as we head into the celebrations. The Reds revamped their midfield in the summer and were not expected to qualify for the Championship any time soon, but they already look like serious contenders. However, Carragher recently suggested that the Reds are not ready to seriously chase the title, telling Sky Sports at the end of November: I think [Manchester City] will win the league comfortably this season. I want! I don’t think Liverpool are quite ready to take on a serious challenge. But speaking on David Seaman’s podcast – Seaman Says – this week, Arsenal legend Bergkamp disagreed and backed Liverpool as Arsenalland’s biggest rivals. He said: I think Liverpool. I have a funny feeling when I saw that game against United and they showed the bench and two players that came on and I was like “oh, they’ve got him, him and him”. They have all been injured and if they come back in time they could be the biggest contenders. It’s about leading a team through that period and reaping the benefits later. There’s obviously a lot of football to be played until we see clear cut candidates, as City still don’t have key man Kevin De Bruyne back from injury. However, Jürgen Klopp must be pleased with the start to the season his men have managed so far.
