Liverpool have begun negotiations to sign Fluminense star Nino
Liverpool have reportedly opened formal talks with Fluminense to explore the details of signing Nino in the upcoming transfer window, according to a new report. The Reds are currently weak in their defensive department following Joel Matip’s season-ending ACL injury. Although they have Ibrahima Konate at center back and Jarell Quansah playing alongside Virgil van Dijk. But while Konate has battled injury problems since moving to Anfield in 2021, Quansah is still very young and has no experience of playing at the highest level. Liverpool also have Joe Gomes who can play at centre-back but is likely to be used on the left following injuries to Andy Robertson and Konstantinos Tsimikas. So Liverpool seem to be coming to grips with the fact that they need to strengthen their back line in January to continue their title race in the second half of this season. Nino to Liverpool Now, according to a recent report (via The Mirror), Liverpool have begun to explore the market to sign a new defender next year and have considered Nino as a serious option. The report further claims that the Merseyside club have already contacted Fluminense to explore the details of signing the Brazilian in the upcoming window. According to the report, Nino is ready to reach the final year of his current contract so that the defender can be snapped up on the cheap if Liverpool decide to make a concrete approach in January. The 26-year-old has enjoyed an excellent campaign this season, helping his side win the Copa Libertadores and leading Fluminense to the World Cup final before losing to eventual champions Manchester City. Standing at 6ft 2in, Nino is good in the air, comfortable playing from the back, excellent defensively and has a penchant for some important goals. The South American, who is valued at around £10m by Transfermarkt, could be a good signing for Liverpool to strengthen their defense if he signs. However, it will be interesting to see if the Merseyside club finally decide to confirm their interest in his services next month. Related topics
