Brock Bowers Making Headway in His Comeback
All-American tight end Brock Bowers may make his injury comeback this week against Ole Miss, according to statements made by Georgia’s coaches and players.
When All-American tight end Brock Bowers hit the ground in frustration on October 14 after appearing to have injured his lower extremities against Vanderbilt, Georgia fans nationwide held their breath. Just when Georgia’s schedule was heating up, a few days later, the news that Bowers had really suffered the feared high ankle sprain and would miss an indefinite period of time confirmed their worst worries. Even though Georgia won both of their most recent games without Bowers, it is becoming more and more likely that the Bulldogs won’t need to do so this year.
Bowers chose to get TightRope surgery after learning that he had a high ankle sprain in an attempt to cut down on the 6–8 week recovery period to just 4-6 weeks. Following three weeks of unrelenting focus on the healing process, Georgia supporters received a positive sign last week when Bowers was seen on the Georgia sideline without a boot during the team’s game against a formidable Missouri team. Following the match, Georgia’s head coach Kirby Smart said that Bowers was improving and had started to jog a little bit.
Tuesday delivered even more good news for the supporters of the Bulldogs, as Smart gave yet another encouraging report on the Bowers’ development before of Georgia’s Saturday top-10 game against Ole Miss.
“He is putting in a lot of effort at work. He is making every effort to improve and get himself in better shape. Now that he’s back running, he’s running on dry land, and he keeps improving, according to Smart. That is essentially how this injury works. Week 1 they did this, Week 2 they did that, Week 3 and Week 4 they did all of the children we’ve had with it. He’s been doing what he’s been doing on time.
Not only did Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint, the wide receiver for Georgia, give a positive update on the recovery of the reigning Mackey Award winner, but Smart was not the first teammate to elaborate on Bowers’ excellent improvement following his ankle injury.

“Brock has been appearing well. I’ve had my eye on him. He appears to be making rapid progress, according to Rosemy-Jacksaint. “He has been sprinting. I heard him strike at about 19 or 20 mph (based on the GPS). He’s making progress and wants to return. We really miss him on the field, so we’re eager for him to return. All we can do is hope and wait.
