good news for Las Vegas Raiders: he is back

C. Andre James to Return to the Raiders
Andre James, a center who was a free agent, is expected to return to the Las Vegas Raiders.

One of the best players on the offensive line is staying with the Las Vegas Raiders.

NFL source Ian Rapoport has reported that the Raiders intend to sign center Andre James to a three-year contract. This offseason, James would have been a free agent.

James’ contract, according to Rapoport, will be worth $24 million, of which $16 million is guaranteed. The center’s previous agreement covered a two-year period for $8.65 million.

Last season, James started 16 games for the Raiders, missing one because of an ankle injury. He was only called for three penalties while allowing four sacks.

After starting every game in the Raiders’ postseason-winning 2021 campaign, he participated in and started 15 games in the previous season, marking his second year as a full-time starter.

In 2019, James, an undrafted free agent out of UCLA, was signed by the Raiders. In his debut season, he made one start out of 12 games. James participated in all 16 games for the Silver and Black the next season.

James received an overall rating of 74.6 from Pro Football Focus for the 2023 season, good for ninth place among centers (minimum number of snaps necessary). His pass-blocking score was 71.2 and his run-blocking grade was 75.0.

The Raiders’ decision to re-sign James is critical because without him, they would have needed to find a replacement starter to cover the void that James had been filling for the previous three seasons.

An offensive line that wants to create consistency up front needs James’ presence. It will also free up the Raiders to concentrate more on maintaining the continuity they want and less on shifting players like Dylan Parham to non-primary positions.

The NFL Draft is scheduled for April 25–27, 2024, in Detroit, Michigan. With the 13th overall pick right now, it belongs to the Las Vegas Raiders.
