Ex-Snooker World Champ who quit sport over paralysis fears now has unexpected new career
Peter Ebdon was once the world champion of his chosen sport, snooker – but these days he’s taken an unexpected career path as a spiritual and energy healer
Ex-World Snooker Champion Peter Ebdon has taken an unexpected career change after he walked away the sport.
In 2002, Ebdon, 53, was on top of the snooker world, winning the Worlds 18-17 in an enthralling encounter with Stephen Hendry.
However, in 2020, he called time on his career after doctors told him a chronic neck injury could only be fixed via spinal surgery that could leave him in a wheelchair.
When it came time to hang up his cue, Ebdon had already found his new calling. The snooker star, a practising vegan who promotes yoga and a Japanese stress reduction and relaxation technique called Reiki, became a spiritual and energy healer.
Ebdon underwent training at a college in Worcestershire college. In 2018, he explained: “Today is my final day at the College of Healing in Malvern where I have been on a two-year course, training to become a professional healer.
“I absolutely love Malvern and intend to live here. It’s an incredibly beautiful and very spiritual place.”
Ebdon said: “I offer healing, distant healing, negative energy clearing and protection when needed.
“As a trained healer, it’s wonderful for me to be able to use the universal energy life force energy for another person’s highest and greatest good. There’s nothing more I can do as a human being than channel that unconditional love.
“That means more to me than anything I ever achieved in my snooker career.”
Ebdon was one of those glued to their TV screen on Monday evening as Kyren Wilson picked up his maiden World Snooker Championship title.
Taking to social media, Ebdon said: “Many years ago, I played a 6-year-old boy in a pool exhibition at Weetabix in Northants. “I suggested to his parents that he should give snooker a try. He had ability and was naturally gifted. Huge congratulations to
Kyren Wilson world champion 2024.
