The structural completion of the San Francisco University High School Project is complete, located at 3150 California Street in Pacific Heights, San Francisco. In the project plan, a three-story building with a central gym, scientific classrooms, and outdoor space will be constructed as new additions to the San Francisco University High School project.
The general contractor is Truebeck Construction. Architects Leddy Maytum Stacy is in charge of the designs.
On April 30, 2024, a topping out ceremony was performed to commemorate the completion of the structural steel frame for the project. The two-story gymnasium in the new, centrally located three-story facility is large enough for collegiate-level sporting events. The structure above the gymnasium is supported by four 95-foot-long, 94,000-pound plate girders. Each plate girder was delivered to the job site in two halves due to weight and size restrictions on San Francisco City streets. Fabrication was finished before the girders were raised into position. When the gymnasium is completed, these girders will still be visible.
“This occasion represents a significant turning point for the project, which got its start in 2008 when UHS bought the land at 3150 California Street. Early in 2023, following years of meticulous planning and design, the site permit was obtained. According to a press release released by Truebeck Construction, “Trubeck broke ground in June 2023 and completed the substructure, including concrete walls and pilasters, in March 2024.”
Facade components include louvers, stucco frames, green walls, and cement panel siding, as was previously discussed. The walkway will act as a buffer between the building and concrete planters. The majority of the classrooms, a mid-structure courtyard, and a large covered rooftop terrace will all be located on the top floor.
The next stage of the project will involve building out the inner spaces, installing the external cladding systems, and finishing the concrete on the top levels. Spring 2025 is when the project is expected to be finished.
Founded in 1973, UHS is an independent college preparatory school located in San Francisco. The new building is a component of a multi-phase initiative to uphold UHS’s vision and values, develop institutional priorities, and keep the school at the forefront of educational evolution. The goal of the brand-new 48,000 square foot California Street Campus is to become Net-Zero Energy.
SME Street, the structural engineer Forell Elsesser, the MEP and lighting engineer PAE, the civil engineer Luk and Associates, and the dry utilities company Urban Design Consulting Engineers are among the other consultants working with Truebeck on the project.
