Mike McCarthy Reveals His Plans for This Season’s Ezekiel Elliott

For years, the Dallas Cowboys have been without a reliable running game.

In his last season with the team, Ezekiel Elliott was effective near the goal line, while Tony Pollard appeared ready to assume a more prominent position.

They didn’t bother attempting to keep Pollard in the summer after he failed to live up to the expectations with Elliott out of the picture.

There were several options available to the Cowboys for their next bell-cow running back, including Josh Jacobs, Austin Ekeler, Joe Mixon, Dalvin Cook, and D’Andre Swift.

Rather, they chose to re-sign Elliott following his season-long stay with the New England Patriots.

HC Mike McCarthy discussed his thoughts on his “new” addition in light of that.

Speaking to the media, the former Super Bowl-winning coach said it seemed like he had never left, complimenting him on his strong character and good addition to the locker room and said that his enthusiasm and old-school manner keep everyone on guard (Via Jon Machota).

McCarthy disclosed that the Cowboys would use a committee to select their running back when questioned about his plans for the team.

“He’s a running back by committee (team), but I believe he’ll play at the kind of play he’s demonstrated during my tenure here. There doesn’t seem to be any decline in his gait. He’s in terrific health, according to McCarthy.

Nevertheless, he asserted that Elliott hasn’t displayed any decline from his previous visit, and he thinks the player is in excellent football shape.

Elliott merited the opportunity to play for the Cowboys one again.

Even if he goes back in time, this club might not be ready to play at the highest level with their present running back room.
