Dre Greenlaw, a linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers, had a non-contact Achilles injury against the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl.
He participated in 15 games in the previous campaign and recorded 1.5 sacks, 120 total tackles (75 solo), and four passes defensed. Three postseason games were attended by him. Surgery was needed for the injury, and it’s possible that this will postpone Greenlaw’s upcoming season.
The linebacker was later assisted off the field and brought to the locker room following his injury. He did not show up for the game, and he recently talked about his feelings about the injury and the defeat, among other things, with NBC Sports Bay Area.
According to NFL Network, he said, “There are moments when you have a little flashback and cry a little bit.”
Four days after the contest, he had surgery to repair his Achilles tendon. He has now recovered for three of the nine months that are supposed to be spent on his recuperation. Greenlaw continues, “You know how hard you worked for that moment, how hard your team worked to get in that moment, so it’s definitely an emotional thing.” “You can’t go out there and compete when you’re that close to it. Thus, it seems as though you abandoned everyone. Thus, it’s one of those things you just sort of consider and try not to cry.
Greenlaw also discussed the reasons for the injury and how it happened at a pivotal point in the season. “My right Achilles was already hurting that whole month, so I wouldn’t say necessarily that (the practice field) was the cause of it,” the linebacker said. It most likely didn’t assist. It was a fairly soft grass. The only things about the field that actually concern me are holes in it and whether or not I’m slipping. I think I can fight on any field if it’s not one of those two.
John Lynch, the 49ers’ general manager, has also reportedly disclosed that Greenlaw will miss the first four games of the upcoming season due to his placement on the physically unable to perform list (PUP).
With breathtaking depth, Greenlaw expresses his confidence for the upcoming season by saying that he will play each game as though it were the Super Bowl, if given the opportunity.
The linebacker admits that he is unsure of when he will make a comeback, but that his body, mind, and the team doctors will give him an estimate.
