FAREBROTHER Challenge: Head Coach of Lautoka Rugby Vows Team is emerging Victorious against Naitasiri

Lautoka Rugby’s head coach has expressed confidence that his team will emerge victorious against Naitasiri in their upcoming match.

Despite their recent loss to Naitasiri in the Skipper Cup, the coach believes that the Maroons have the resilience and determination to bounce back. Lautoka has had a successful season, recently retaining the Vanua Trophy with an impressive 29-19 win over Ba, marking their tenth consecutive win.

The coach highlighted the rigorous training and strategic planning that have gone into preparing the team for this crucial game.

He emphasized the importance of discipline and execution, noting that the team has been focusing on enhancing their defensive and offensive strategies to counter Naitasiri’s strengths.

The support from the fans has also been a crucial morale booster, and the coach is optimistic that with continued dedication and community backing, Lautoka can secure a win on Saturday 25th of May.

The last time Lautoka hosted the Farebrother Cup Challenge was in 2003, a significant year for the team.

That year, Lautoka clinched the title by defeating Naitasiri 18-13. They managed to defend the trophy against several strong teams including Nadi, Suva, and Nadroga before eventually losing it to Tailevu.

This triumph in 2003 marked a high point for Lautoka rugby, as they showcased their prowess by overcoming fierce competition.

The victory over Naitasiri was particularly memorable, solidifying their reputation in the local rugby scene. The team’s ability to hold onto the trophy for several matches demonstrated their competitive edge and resilience during that season.

Fast forward to 2024, Lautoka once again made headlines by winning the Farebrother Trophy after a 21-year gap, defeating Nadi 16-10.

This victory not only ended their long drought but also rekindled memories of their last successful run in 2003, reinforcing their enduring legacy in Fijian rugby.
