The Seattle Seahawks are set at quarterback with Geno Smith and Sam Howell, but the team needed a third option in case Smith or Howell were injured.

NFL teams can now have a third QB on the sidelines during game days just in case QB1 and QB2 get hurt. Plus, having a quarterback on the practice squad is always helpful.

General manager John Schneider must have also liked what he saw from quarterback P.J. Walker during the Seahawks victory over the Cleveland Browns last season. Seattle had no business winning the game, but they did. Some of that was due to Walker’s inability to be efficient.

Again, though, Schneider saw something in Walker that he liked because Seattle signed Walker, according to NFL inside Ian Rapoport, this week to compete for a roster spot. Walker does have an interesting story. He did not make a team in the NFL originally, and he ended up in the XFL. There he led that league in passing yards and touchdowns somehow.

Walker started two games for the Browns last year with one of them coming against Seattle. In Week 8 at Lumen Field, Walker completed 15 of 31 passes for 248 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions. He also ran six times for 27 yards. Those passing yards were the third most of Walker’s career. He threw for 317 yards against the Atlanta Falcons in 2022.
