Randy Gregory, an edge rusher for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers today, is suing the NFL and the Denver Broncos for penalties he received because of his use of THC.
He also played for the Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers. Of all the clubs Randy Gregory has issues with, there’s a reason he’s suing the Denver Broncos.
Although Randy Gregory is best known for his THC-related issues that surfaced shortly after he was picked by the Cowboys, he has decided to sue the Broncos.
He decided to file a lawsuit against the Broncos because of the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act.
Gregory and his legal counsel are arguing that in order to treat his disability, he needs THC. PTSD and social anxiety disorder are among the difficulties. The Pro Football Talk lawsuit contains a full account of the arguments.
According to the legal lawsuit, “Mr. Gregory requested an accommodation from the NFL and Broncos to consume Dronabinol to treat his disabilities.”
In particular, Mr. Gregory tried to take synthetic cannabis, or Dronabinol, during off-peak hours as instructed by his treating physician. Given that THC is a chemical that is subject to federal control, the NFL and the Broncos declined his request.
“Mr. Gregory has paid $532,500 in fines to the NFL for using THC to treat his disability since he requested an accommodation.
Mr. Gregory is required to participate in every game, practice, media sessions, and fulfill his work obligations even in the event of an adverse test result. Put otherwise, he cannot be suspended based only on a positive test result. Prominently, Mr. Gregory’s job benefitted both the NFL and the Broncos.
Although the NFL itself bears some of the blame for the fines Gregory had to pay, Gregory argues that the Broncos, his employer, should bear some of the blame for accommodating his disability.
Randy Gregory can be an impact player when on the field, at least the Tampa Bay Buccaneers think so
Gregory participated in more than 14 games in a season for the first time in 2023. Gregory has demonstrated that, despite his inability to stay on the field, he is a capable player when he does. Gregory has accumulated 117 tackles and 22 sacks in his career.
Gregory has struggled to establish a consistent routine throughout his career, and at this stage of his development, he is more of a rotating player. After being acquired by the 49ers from the Broncos in exchange for a 2024 sixth-round pick, he was able to participate in the team’s Super Bowl victory.
Randy Gregory showed immense amounts of promise coming out of college as a Nebraska Cornhuskers star
Randy Gregory was selected by the Cowboys in the first round of the draft because of his dominance as an edge rusher for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Gregory recorded 16.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, 25.5 tackles for loss, and 119 total tackles in just 24 games with the Huskers.
Gregory was a classic edge rusher who could break a game and gave the Cornhuskers defense a mentality they haven’t seen since. The majority of supporters recall Gregory’s explosive performance against the Miami Hurricanes at the start of the season, which included seven tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble.
After signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this summer, Gregory will aim for a career comeback with them the following year. Gregory can still make a significant contribution to an NFL club, even though his difficulties with the league’s THC regulations prevented him from ever living up to what Nebraska supporters believed he could be.
