Head coach of the Detroit Lions, Dan Campbell, used a line from one of the best comedic movies ever made to describe the next step his squad needs to take in order to win the franchise’s first Super Bowl.

This week’s Lions OTAs are anticipated with great anticipation from the organization. At this time last year, there were still doubts about whether or not their 9-8 record in 2022 was an indication of great things to come.

Well, winning 12 games in the previous campaign did, in fact, validate Detroit’s comeback to long-term relevance. USA stuns Pakistan in cricket, Boston destroys Dallas in the NBA, and Magic backs up Hurley for the Lakers!

Even still, the team’s narrow loss to the New England Patriots in their season-opening game earlier this year indicated that they still had opportunity to grow going into the 2024 NFL season. On Thursday, the idea was discussed as Campbell discussed his expectations for the roster to become more instinctive in specific scenarios this season by drawing on Will Ferrll’s iconic character, Ron Burgundy.

We can truly improve both offensively and defensively in those small areas. similar to knowing who is there and what the circumstances are. According to Campbell, via SI.com, “We can’t pull a Ron Burgundy, even though we understand what it says on paper. “We can’t just keep reading from the teleprompter,”.

And, to be absolutely honest, that is what San Francisco did to us, so it is the next development and stage. They were playing at a distinct level. Dan Campbell’s career record is 29-33-1.

Burgundy is duped by his lover-turned-enemy Veronica Corningstone in a notable scene from the movie, which you can watch above. She takes advantage of his habit of reading everything off the teleprompter, even errors.

Here, he instructs the San Diego local viewers to “go [expletive] yourselves.” Having competed for the Super Bowl for a longer period of time than the Lions, the San Francisco 49ers possess the expertise necessary to make significant adjustments during pivotal periods.

Similar progress is very possible as Detroit, a high-level team entering their third straight season, goes into the campaign. This is undoubtedly another, if humorous, illustration of Dan Campbell’s distinct coaching style, which has helped him become a beloved member of the Detroit Lions over the past few seasons.
