It’s not simple for teams to find but when they do, organizations tend to make sure they stick around for the long haul. In the 2021 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars selected quarterback Trevor Lawrence from Clemson University.
Lawrence has had some ups and downs in his career, but he has generally performed as expected. However, as we approach 2024, expectations for both the Jaguars and Lawrence have shifted.
The former Clemson Tiger recently signed a massive extension to stay in Jacksonville, so his game will need to improve to make this deal worthwhile.
The two parties reached an agreement on a five-year contract totaling $275 million, with Lawrence receiving $55 million per year beginning in 2026. He talked up on why he opted to stay in Jacksonville long-term. “It feels good to be done,” Lawrence added.
“That was a goal that [the Jaguars] and myself and my team wanted to get done is to have it finished by the time training camp came around so we could just put everything towards this year and getting ready to go bring a championship here.”

If Lawrence improves his performance this season, the Jaguars have a strong chance of winning the Super Bowl.
They are anticipated to be one of the best teams in the AFC once more, but Lawrence will decide how far they go. Lawrence’s new contract does not alter his perception of his performance, but rather improves upon his previous expectations.
“Being a starting quarterback in this league is a big responsibility and the team goes as you go, and I know that,” Lawrence informed the crowd.
“So, I’m not going to put myself under any additional strain just because I got this contract.
It makes little difference between what I expect of myself and what the team expects of me. Last season, Lawrence passed for 4,016 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. He will need to be more consistent in the future if the Jaguars are to realize their full potential, but he has the talent.
Lawrence was considered a top prospect after graduating from Clemson, raising expectations for his NFL career. Lawrence can only focus on his play and let the chips fall where they may.
