The Green Bay Packers had an interest in Jake Bates

When reports circulated that the Packers had requested a visit with UFL standout Jake Bates, they did not appear to be pleased with those three.

As previously mentioned on WSH, the Carolina Panthers, Baltimore Ravens, and Lions requested to meet with Bates this week. Bates had a standout season for the Michigan Panthers.

Throughout the regular season, he made 17 of 22 field goals. His long was 64 yards. The Arkansas standout was originally signed by the Houston Texans in 2023, but was cut before training camp last year.

Bates had plenty of action in the Panthers’ 31-18 loss against the Birmingham Stallions on Saturday. He made four of six field goals, including a 53-yarder. Bates did make an error on a kickoff in the second quarter. He kicked the ball out of bounds after scoring, giving the Stallions possession at the 50-yard line.

The Stallions scored a touchdown on the following play. Michigan Panthers outstanding kicker Jake Bates, a Tomball graduate who spent training camp with the Texans last year, is set to sign with the Detroit Lions when UFL players can officially sign on Tuesday, according to league sources.

Bates could have been an excellent choice for the Packers during training camp.

The Packers plainly believe they need to enhance their kicker from last season, and they are not completely satisfied with what they’ve seen this spring.

We’ll see if they make another serious move to get a kicker before preseason.
