According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Jacksonville Jaguars will add Denzel Mims, a former New York Jets second-round receiver, as Training Camp approaches.

This may be a wonderful low-risk/high-reward option, allowing Mims to push for a roster spot while also providing QB Trevor Lawrence with another taller, bigger-bodied receiver (similar to what he had at Clemson).

Mims has struggled to make an impression since the New York Jets selected him in the second round of the 2020 draft. Denzel has caught 42 passes on 92 targets for 676 yards and zero touchdowns over the last three seasons (30 games). He was later dealt to the Detroit Lions for a 2025 conditional sixth-round pick.

However, the Lions released Mims as injured before the season began, and he did not appear in a game in 2023. Mims most recently spent time on the Steelers’ practice squad before being cut on Wednesday.

With UDFA receivers Wayne Ruby and David White Jr. injured in the offseason, Coach Pederson previously stated that he felt the team was lighter at the WR position for camp. The Jaguars recently signed tryout WRs Austin Trammell and Kyric McGowan after Mandatory Veteran Minicamp tryouts, just days after Pederson’s comment.

The Jaguars front staff is continuing this offseason’s trend of adding depth with upside to the bottom of the roster at wide.

First, many high-upside UDFA WRs such as Division Three phenomenon Wayne Ruby and UDFA fan favorite Joshua Cephus were brought in, followed by ProBowl WR Jarvis Landry on a try-out basis for Rookie Minicamp and even the possibility of working out UFL Offensive Player of the Year Hakeem Butler.

This is expected to be an intriguing camp battle for the sixth or seventh wide receiver position.

As the signing became official, the organization announced that they had cut WR Kyric McGowan as a corresponding roster move.

As previously stated, McGowan was just signed after trying out for the team during Mandatory Veteran Minicamp.
