The Detroit Pistons announced on Friday night that Kevin Burleson would be joining J.B. Bickerstaff as an assistant coach. Indeed, he is connected, before you even ask.

Nate Burleson, a former NFL receiver who played for the Detroit Lions for four years from 2010 to 2013—the most successful period of his 11-year NFL career—is the brother of Kevin Burleson. Since then, Nate has achieved even greater success by joining CBS Mornings as a co-anchor. However, Nate has emerged as an unofficial Detroit evangelist, frequently sporting city-supporting merchandise and praising the city in public.

It is therefore not surprising that Nate was overjoyed to see his brother arrive in Detroit and be given the opportunity to take on a major coaching role.

“I’m really happy for my older brother!” On Friday, Nate posted a tweet. “He’s an even better man and one of the best coaches in the game.” One another stunning basket has been made by the @DetroitPistons, adding to their impressive roster. Good morning, DETROIT! #WhatUp, do you guys have another Burleson in the D?

Kevin has worked as an NBA assistant coach three times now. He spent a season (2018)–19 with the Memphis Grizzlies and three seasons (2019–22) with the Minnesota Timberwolves. In addition, Kevin played basketball for a season in Romania, Germany, and even the Charlotte Bobcats.

Here’s a video of Nate encouraging his brother Kevin, the NBA G League head coach of the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, all the way to the Finals the previous season.
