The NFL World Reacts To Jacoby Jones Passing

Per ESPN’s Jamison Hensley and others, Jones passed around his family in peace on Sunday morning. Many people around the NFL, including tons of his former teammates and coaches are mourning the loss of their friend on social media.

“This sucks. Jacoby was as funny a teammate and happy a person I had ever shared locker room with,” said ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky, who played with Jones on the Houston Texans in 2010. “RIP.” 

“This hits hard,” Matt Leinart said. “His laugh and just bigger than life personality will be something I’ll always remember. RIP brother.”

“Jacoby was one of the most fun-loving teammates and people I’ve ever been around,” former Texans star JJ Watt said. “Always dancing and laughing, with a permanent smile on his face. Gone far, far too soon.”

“My brother! I thank God for the memories and your impact on this world,” former Baltimore Ravens teammate Torrey Smith wrote. “You were 1 of 1! Your play on the field and jokes will live on forever! We have Momma Jones [and] Lil Coby’s back for life! This one hurt me man! We are going to miss you! Love you bro!”

“Jacoby Jones was an absolute legend,” Pat McAfee wrote. “He was beloved by literally everybody he met and lit up every room/field he walked into/onto. Rest easy my brother.. we will miss your presence.”

Jones was one of the best returners in the history of the NFL, and fans will always remember him for the 2012 postseason, even though he was an All-Pro returner that year.

Jones was not only one of the big heroes in the Super Bowl, but also scored what is known as the “Mile High Miracle,” where Jones caught a huge bomb for a 70 yard touchdown in the final minute of the AFC Divisional Round. That tied the game and they were able to pull of the victory. Jones totaled a whopping 11,351 all purpose yards in his career, and 10 total return touchdowns.

Jacoby Jones’ Coaches Share Heartfelt Message

Both the Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers head coaches shared messages about Jones after hearing of his passing.

John Harbaugh released a lengthy statement sharing how Jones was just a spark of light to be around, and he shared his love for his former player.

“I loved Jacoby Jones. We all did,” Harbaugh’s statement reads. “His spirit, enthusiasm and love for people were powerful. He was a light. He was the cherished son of his loving mom, Ms. Emily. They were so close. He was a man of faith.

“My favorite football play was when Jacoby was talking to his mom in the end zone, just before a late-game kickoff return against the Vikings in a snowstorm shootout. Jacoby then raced to catch the ball and run it back for a touchdown.

 

“My favorite Jacoby personal moment was every time I saw his smiling face full of Joy. Rest in peace, Jacoby, in the arms of Jesus.”

 

Head coach Mike Tomlin also released a statement as well following the tragic news:

“My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family of Jacoby Jones during this difficult time,” Tomlin wrote. “I enjoyed coaching him during his time with the Steelers.”
