Briefly: Takeaways from the Nail-biting encounter~ Teams USA vs Australia

Anthony Edwards Pulls Out Sweet Crossover to Cap Off Hot First Half vs. Australia

Team USA Basketball forward Anthony Edwards prepares to shoot the ball during an exhibition game against Team Australia at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi on Monday.

Minnesota Timberwolves star forward Anthony Edwards dubbed himself the “number one option” for the USA Basketball Men’s National Team, a star-studded squad with at least three future Hall of Famers in LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant on its roster. But Edwards, a rising star in his own right, has backed up his words.

After leading the team in scoring during its exhibition victory over Team Canada, Edwards once again came out of the gate firing during Monday’s win over Team Australia at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Edwards poured in a quick 11 points in just five minutes of the first half, creating a highlight reel-worthy play when he pulled out a silky smooth crossover and jumper with 4:41 left in the first period. Edwards and company were tested by the Australians, but ultimately earned a 98-92 victory.

After the exhibition victory over Team Canada, Edwards doubled down on being the team’s top option. He continues to make a convincing case on the court as well, as Team USA prepares for Olympic play, which begins on July 28.

Team USA began exhibition play ahead of the Paris Olympics, defeating Canada 86-72 on Wednesday night in Las Vegas.

Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards, who made waves earlier this week when he called himself the team’s No. 1 option on a squad filled with Hall of Famers, backed up his bold statement with an efficient 13-point, three-rebound performance on 6-for-10 shooting off the bench in the victory for the United States.

When asked postgame if he believed he was the No. 1 option, Edwards didn’t disappoint with his answer. “Uh, what you think?” Edwards quipped, before nodding.

Edwards is no doubt one of the faces of the future for Team USA basketball, as he continues his ascent into one of the game’s premier stars. He will play an important role on this Olympic team too, as the United States pursues another gold medal.
