Dragons powerhouse Moses Suli escapes ban for referee incident in heated Storm clash
Dragons star Moses Suli has escaped suspension for an incident with referee Grant Atkins during his side’s shocking round 22 win over the Storm at AAMI Park.
In one of the biggest upsets of the season, Shane Flanagan’s men held on for an 18-16 triumph over the ladder leaders, forcing their way back into the top-eight.
Suli was at his imposing best during the contest, finishing with a game-high 177 run metres, but found himself in hot water before half time after a fiery melee.
After the hosts received a penalty, Nelson Asofa-Solomona threw the ball at Jaydn Su’A, sparking an all-in fracas between the two teams.
In the process, Suli ran in from the other side of the field and brushed past Atkins, who cautioned the St George Illawarra wrecking ball.
The 25-year-old has since been hit with a grade one contrary conduct charge and will be fined $750 if he takes the early guilty plea.
Suli’s fine comes after Jahrome Hughes and Will Kennedy were both suspended for one game each for accidentally bumping into referees this season.
In the same game, Asofa-Solomona was hit with a grade one careless high tackle charge and will be fined $1800 with an early guilty plea. Eli Katoa and Tom Eisenhuth were also charged but will escape bans.
In the other clash on Saturday night, Cameron McInnes and Keaon Koloamatangi were both charged for high tackles but both players are looking at a fine.
