‘Very satisfying’: Des believes Titans can pull off miracle as unsung hero praised
Titans coach Des Hasler has fired a warning shot to the rest of the competition following his side’s exhilarating 46-18 hammering of the Broncos at Cbus Super Stadium on Saturday.
Much of the post-game talk has surrounded the Broncos being bundled out of the finals after losing eight of their last nine games in a stunning fall from grace.
But Hasler’s men deserve some serious props for their return to form after losing their opening six matches of the season to now be a chance to feature in September.
They’ve now won back-to-back games against the Dolphins and Broncos, with the latter playing for their season on Saturday before having their year ended by a red-hot Gold Coast outfit.
Trailing 18-10 at the break, the Titans poured on 36 unanswered points to completely blow Brisbane off the park.
And while Brisbane lost prop Payne Haas and five-eighth Ezra Mam in the first half to injury, the Broncos played against 12 men for 10 minutes after Titans fullback Keano Kini was sent to the bin for holding Mam back in the act of scoring.
Hasler refused to get too carried away with the win but was buoyed by the confidence in knowing that if his side replicate Saturday’s performance they are going to give every team they face in the run home some serious headaches.
“We’ve got some quality sides that we’ve got to play in the next month but it’s good to know that those sides are going to get a game of footy,” Hasler said.
“I don’t want to give away too many raps to the side so far but they’ve had to overcome a fair bit of adversity this year so they’ve really shown some real growth in being able to really focus and stay at the task.
“And because they’ve done that we find ourselves still in the fight but there’s still a long way to go yet.
“We’re probably in a position at this stage where we are an out, out, outside chance so we have to keep producing wins.
“So from that angle it was very satisfying.”
