Confronting scenes as Dragons star taken to hospital
The Dragons’ loss to the Bulldogs has been compounded by the concerning sight of Hame Sele being taken to hospital due to an irregular heartbeat.
Sele left the field 20 minutes into the first half and was captured on camera being loaded into an ambulance by Dragons staff at half time.
Nine’s Danika Mason then reported it was due to an irregular heartbeat.
Post-game, Dragons coach Shane Flanagan was unable to provide many details.
“He’s been taken to hospital … it’s a bit of a concern,” he said.
“I don’t want to comment too much on it because I don’t know the full details.”
The Bulldogs started the match on fire when Matt Burton went over in the third minute before he converted a penalty goal moments later to make it 8-0.
Zac Lomax put the Dragons back in the hunt in the 23rd minute when he scored but two quick tries to Bronson Xerri extended the lead for Canterbury.
Dragons fullback Tyrell Sloan scored right on half time to bring back the deficit as the Bulldogs led 20-10.
The second half was all the Bulldogs though, with Kurt Mann scoring and Burton kicking a penalty goal late to seal a 28-10 victory.
Along with the concern for Sele, the Dragons could be without Moses Suli who left the field late in the second half with a knee injury.
