Williams will cover for Kalia Davis, who was just hurt.

Nick Williams, a defensive lineman, was officially signed by the San Francisco 49ers to a one-year contract.

Williams has spent more than ten years in the league.

The Pittsburgh Steelers selected him in the seventh round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

Williams has been with the Steelers, Kansas City Chiefs, Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, New York Jets, and, most recently, the Los Angeles Chargers over his 11-year career.

Williams will try to step in for Kalia Davis, who impressed during the 49ers’ opening preseason game and has the potential to provide the team with much-needed depth all season long.

Sadly, Davis sustained a knee injury that will prevent him from playing for the most of the season. Ezekiel Turner, a linebacker, was released as a result.

In the preseason opener, Turner was signed as a possible ace on special teams, but he missed as many tackles as he made and let his lone target be caught.

Turner’s release made logical because there was no need for a linebacker with Tatum Bethune and Dee Winters in the wings.

Maliek Collins and Javon Hargrave lead the 49ers defensive tackle corps, but following Jordan Elliott, who plays more as a nose tackle, the team will turn to Kevin Givens and T.Y. McGill for depth.

On clear-cut passing downs, Nick Sorensen will almost definitely utilize players like Robert Beal Jr. and Yetur Gross-Matos as defensive tackles.
