BREAKING NEWS: Fiji Rugby Union has finally Restored Membership in the World Rugby Council.

Membership in the World Rugby Council Restored for the Fiji Rugby Union.

Fiji’s Suva The World Rugby has reinstated the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) as a member of the World Rugby Council, effective immediately. Following their meeting in late July, the World Rugby Executive Board examined a report from the Fiji Oversight Committee, which led to this momentous decision. The Fiji Rugby Union successfully conducted a Special General Meeting, during which its members overwhelmingly approved a new constitution and organisational framework, according to the report. This is a significant advancement for Fiji Rugby’s leadership, accountability, and transparency.

The Fiji Rugby Union’s Chairman, Mr. Peter Mazey, expressed his excitement about the reinstatement. “We are immensely appreciative of World Rugby’s assistance and the dedication displayed by our partners throughout this undertaking. We are committed to advancing Fiji Rugby, as seen by the ratification of our new constitution and governance structure. This reinstatement is not only a win for our Union but also for all of the players, coaches, and supporters who have supported us throughout this difficult time.

“We are excited to work with our fellow council members to positively impact the sport on both a national and international level. This development allows us to strengthen our ties within the global rugby community and to continue our mission of growing the game of rugby in Fiji,” Mr. Mazey continued.

The World Rugby Integrity Code will now need to be followed when selecting the Fiji Rugby Union’s representative to the Council, and the nominee must undergo due process before being appointed. The World Rugby Executive Board thanked Dr. Robin Mitchell and Cathy Wong of the Fiji Oversight Committee in a statement for their hard work and dedication in helping the Fiji Rugby Union resolve the issue successfully.

The FRU will continue to strive carefully to respect the values and standards demanded by World Rugby.
