Breaking News: Byrne Thrilled with New Centre Pairing, Confident In Team’s Potential

Byrne looks forward to Masi and Tabuavou combination at centres

Fiji Water Flying Fijians coach Mick Byrne is looking forward to the young combination of Swire Shipping Fijian Drua duo Iosefo Masi and Inia Tabuavou at centres for the upcoming Pacific Nations Cup that kicks off next Friday.

Masi recently returned from the Paris Olympics with the Fiji Men’s 7s squad in which they won silver while Tabuavou recently just signed up for the Drua from Racing 92 for the 2025 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific season.

Byrne says Masi had a great run at centre for the Drua this season and is looking forward to what he will bring to the team.

He says Tabuavou is a big, strong running player with a lot of upside and it will be great to have Masi outside of him.

With the absence of former captain Waisea Nayacalevu, the two players will surely be a go-to for Byrne in terms of the combination at centre along with Fijian Drua centre Apisalome Vota who is also expected to provide support in that position.

The Flying Fijians will take on Manu Samoa at 6pm next Friday at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
