Live Updates: Eels Fall Flat, Completely Roasted by Roosters

Roosters Sink Eels in Allianz Downpour: Dom Young’s Hat-Trick Leads 38-14 Domination in Rain-Soaked Showdown

In a dominant display at a rain-soaked Allianz Stadium, the Sydney Roosters overwhelmed the Parramatta Eels 38-14, keeping their hopes of securing a top-two finish alive. Despite the challenging conditions, which saw players slipping and sliding across a waterlogged field, the Roosters showcased their class, with winger Dom Young starring with a hat-trick before leaving the game early due to a hamstring concern. The team later reported it was a precautionary measure.

The match began under diabolical conditions, as torrential rain shortly before kickoff left much of the stadium submerged. Commentator Corey Parker described the scene as “diabolical,” with the soaked pitch causing numerous players to lose their footing. Despite committing a few early errors, the Roosters quickly found their rhythm, crossing the line three times within the first 22 minutes.

Spencer Leniu broke the deadlock in the 10th minute with a powerful try near the posts. Shortly after, the Roosters’ wingers, Young and Daniel Tupou, both added their names to the scoresheet in quick succession.

Leading 24-4 at halftime, the Roosters didn’t let up in the second half. Dom Young completed his hat-trick in the 58th minute, extending their lead to 38-4 and prompting commentator Dan Ginnane to remark that Young was “toying with the Eels.” The game took a further turn against Parramatta, with two of their players sent to the sin bin.

The Roosters capitalized, outscoring the Eels four tries to none during those periods. Eels prop Wiremu Greig was sin-binned for a high tackle on Connor Watson, who was later ruled out after failing an HIA.

The Eels managed to score two late tries to add some respectability to the scoreboard, but it was too little, too late as the Roosters claimed a convincing victory, despite the challenging conditions.
