Leroy Carter, the All Blacks Sevens star, agrees to a two-year deal with the Gallagher Chiefs.

Leroy Carter, a highly skilled player who was selected for his first Olympics this year and advanced to the quarterfinals with the All Blacks Sevens in Paris, has confirmed that he will play in his first DHL Super Rugby Pacific match wearing a Gallagher Chiefs jersey. The 2023 World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year nominee has inked a two-year contract with the Hamilton-based franchise, which begins in 2025. Since returning home, Carter has made a smooth transition to the 15s and last weekend marked the start of his fifth NPC season with Bay of Plenty.

Carter has also played for the New Zealand Barbarians and the New Zealand Under-20 squad. Gallagher Chiefs head coach Clayton McMillan stated, “Leroy has always been a player of immense talent, showcased in recent seasons with the All Black Sevens team and Bay of Plenty.” We adore his aggressive play style, competitive spirit, and ability to play both halfback and the wing with ease. We are eager for him to participate while wearing the Chiefs colours.

Carter was born and reared in Tauranga and has deep ties to the Chiefs area. “Leaving a team like the All Blacks Sevens is difficult. I’m appreciative of the team because they’ve done so much for me, but I’m excited about what lies ahead, Carter added. It’s a thrilling moment for me because the Chiefs are a team I have always wanted to play for since I was a small child. I am eager to start working.

After the NPC season later this year, Carter will get together with the Gallagher Chiefs. In 2020, he was a member of the Chiefs’ extended training squad.
