BREAKING: PNC 2024: Flying Fijians Shift Focus to Fitness

Flying Fijians Gear Up for Tonga Clash: Coach Mick Byrne Focuses on Fitness and Mastering Core Skills

Fiji Water Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne is placing a strong emphasis on fitness and fundamental rugby skills as his team gears up for their next Pacific Nations Cup (PNC) clash against Tonga. Following a convincing 42-16 victory over Manu Samoa in their opening PNC match, Byrne is keen to ensure his squad remains grounded and focused on continuous improvement.

Byrne acknowledges that the team cannot afford to rest on their laurels despite the impressive start. He stresses the importance of maintaining peak physical condition over the coming weeks, particularly with three challenging matches ahead. The coach is determined to see his players in top form as they head into the crucial stages of the tournament.

In addition to fitness, Byrne highlights the critical role of mastering basic rugby skills. He believes that perfecting these core skills is essential to the team’s overall performance and success. With no immediate game this weekend, the coach views it as an ideal opportunity to fine-tune the team’s combinations and work on their fundamentals.

As the Flying Fijians prepare to travel to Nuku’alofa for their second PNC match against Tonga next Friday, Byrne is focused on building their game. He aims to ensure that the team is not only physically prepared but also sharp in their execution of the basics, which he considers the bedrock of their strategy going forward.
