Flying Fijians Strengthen Squad with Sevens Sensation Ahead of Fierce Tonga Clash
Fiji Sevens representative Ponipate Loganimasi has been called up to join the Flying Fijians camp as injury cover for winger Selestino Ravutaumada, who is currently in Australia undergoing surgery. Additionally, Penaia Cakobau, who plays for North Harbour in New Zealand’s National Provincial Championship (NPC), has been drafted into the squad to replace Kavaia Tagivetaua.
Assistant Coach Aaron Mauger expressed satisfaction with the team’s progress during their bye week, highlighting the value of the additional preparation time. “We had a really good week of preparation last week in our bye week,” Mauger said.
“There were a lot of things we did well in our first Pacific Nations Cup game against Samoa, but there are also small areas we identified for improvement. Last week provided us the perfect opportunity to refine those aspects and further enhance our game. The squad is fit and ready.”
Looking ahead to their upcoming match against Tonga, Mauger acknowledged the challenge of playing in a hostile environment, especially considering the passionate support of the home team’s fans.
The Flying Fijians are set to face Tonga this Friday at 3 p.m., and despite the expected intensity, they remain focused and prepared to deliver a strong performance on the field.
