Prescott is expected to play even though Lamb has already signed a new contract.

Karl Rasmussen Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb of the Dallas Cowboys is back in the practice group following his big contract extension, which will pay him $136 million over the course of the next four seasons.

Quarterback Dak Prescott is next in line for a new contract from the team, but it’s unlikely that he and the Cowboys would agree on an extension before Sunday’s season opener.

Lamb praised Prescott on Thursday for continuing to be the team’s clear leader in the absence of a new contract.

Lamb defended Prescott when he was questioned about his unresolved contract situation.

“Dak is doing a great job of not really bringing it into the workspace, but I know personally that it could take a toll on him, but he’s doing a great job of leading us in the right direction,” Lamb told reporters, via Ed Werder of WFAA.

Lamb is well-versed in Prescott’s circumstances, having staged a holdout during training camp in an attempt to negotiate a new contract to stay in Dallas.

The process took a long time, but in the end, Lamb was able to get his new deal, making him the second-highest paid player at his position.

If and when Prescott’s acquisition closes, it has the potential to reset the market.

Even though the great quarterback’s contract is about to expire, he isn’t letting it get in the way of the team’s success.

Prescott also discussed his contract predicament on Thursday.

Prescott responded, “I’ve always talked about how present I can be, but understanding not everybody is capable of that, to be honest with you, so yeah, there could definitely be some benefit in that,” when asked if the club as a whole would benefit from a new contract.

On Sunday, September 8, the Cowboys play their first game of the season against the Cleveland Browns.
