The former Mississippi State standout received great appreciation from the Cowboys head coach. This Sunday, the Dallas Cowboys take on the Cleveland Browns in their season opener.

Although the storyline surrounding Dak Prescott’s contract has taken center stage, head coach Mike McCarthy has given the former Mississippi State standout quarterback high marks.

It appears like the only person in the Cowboys organization who is prepared to give the veteran quarterback accolades is the previous head coach who won a Super Bowl.

For more than ten years, the sixty-year-old seasoned coach in Green Bay collaborated with four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers.

McCarthy contrasted the former Mississippi State quarterback with Oakland Raiders quarterback Rich Gannon, the 2002 NFL MVP, who passed for 4,689 yards and 26 touchdowns.

McCarthy remarked, “You hate to compare quarterbacks to quarterbacks from the past because it’s never fair on either side of the comparison.

However, Rich Gannon has always set the bar high for the folks I’ve had the pleasure of working with.

Rich prepared in an incredibly thorough, comprehensive, and extravagant manner, and Dak follows suit.

Despite not having received an NFL MVP award yet, Prescott has amassed those kinds of stats during his tenure in Dallas, particularly when McCarthy joined the team in 2020.

McCarthy may have hit on the similarity, as Prescott appears to be an ideal fit for the scheme, which mainly depends on accurate throws, quick reads, and wise decision-making, all of which stem from preparation.

The Cowboys’ postseason difficulties have been extensively reported, and many people are willing to assign blame.

McCarthy is at least attempting to preserve the locker room by praising his starting quarterback, even though it is probably not appropriate for him to be kept following last season.

Owner Jerry Jones has made it worse by blaming the players.
