The Cowboys dismissed defensive end Viliami Fehoko Jr. off injured reserve following an injury settlement, according to a report from ESPN’s Todd Archer on Tuesday.

The Cowboys waived wide receiver David Durden in addition to Fehoko Jr. Prior to the roster reduction deadline that occurred last week, Fehoko was first waived with an injury designation.

Prior to the preseason, the former fourth-round pick was considered a likely cut candidate, and he did little to alter the Cowboys brass’s opinion.

Despite playing a lot (38 defensive snaps) in Dallas’ season-ending game against the Los Angeles Chargers, Fehoko only managed a tackle, a pass deflection, and a quarterback hit. The former San Jose State lineman spent the most of his rookie campaign on injured reserve and saw no action.

The Cowboys were hinting at Fehoko’s roster slot with their acquisitions throughout training camp and their selection of Marshawn Kneeland in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

However, the seasoned defensive lineman was unable to translate his collegiate success to the professional ranks. He recorded 191 tackles, 47 tackles for loss, 23 sacks, 12 pass breakups, and five caused fumbles while playing for San Jose State. Fehoko, meanwhile, is still young enough to have an impact in the NFL at age 24.

However, he must first regain his health and demonstrate his abilities in exercises in order to be considered for a practice squad spot with any of the 32 teams in the league.
