A powerful back who could get yards in a ruthless way was sorely lacking from the Dallas Cowboys offense the previous season. Now that he is back in the game, Ezekiel Elliott will serve as the offensive coordinator for the Cowboys once more. Zeke is the tough, powerful runner Dallas needed last season, and with him in the mix, perhaps the run game can still be effective in a room with Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn, and Dalvin Cook. Zack Martin, a right guard, is most suited as a physical back, and in 2024 he will be blocking for Elliott.

“I mean like that’s his bread and butter, is a short-yardage situations,” Martin remarked. “From the moment he got here you, guys don’t want to tackle him over and over again, so that’s definitely an edge that that we get back here with him.” Elliott’s return to prominence for the Cowboys offense raises the hopes that Dowdle, Vaughn, and perhaps Cook will be Zeke’s lightning rod.

Although the 50+ yard runs are probably beyond of this group’s comfort zone, head coach Mike McCarthy has a variety of alternatives available to him, and each player brings something unique to the offense.
