Fijiana 7s Coach Saiasi Fuli Prepares for Final Chapter as Fiji Rugby Eyes New Leadership
With less than three months remaining on his contract as head coach of the Fijiana 7s, Saiasi Fuli is focused on ensuring a smooth transition for his successor. Fuli has announced that, together with his coaching staff and management, he plans to prepare the team for the next phase of its development before stepping down.
The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) has confirmed it will not be renewing Fuli’s contract, which ends soon, and will be advertising for the position in December. This was disclosed by FRU interim chair Peter Mazey during a press conference held at Rugby House in Suva.
In his remaining time with the team, Fuli aims to present and refine strategies for the upcoming HSBC 7s Series. His primary goal is to hand over a well-organized and forward-looking plan to the new management team, ensuring they have the tools needed to continue the Fijiana’s progress.
“My role now is to assist with the transition, develop, and submit the plan along with the program for the incoming management,” Fuli stated.
Fuli’s five-year tenure has seen notable achievements, most memorably leading the Fijiana 7s to a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded the 50th Independence Medal in 2021, highlighting his significant impact on Fijian rugby.
