Flying Fijians Set for Epic Showdown Against USA in Pacific Nations Cup Semi-Final!
The FIJI Water Flying Fijians are preparing for a thrilling semi-final clash against the USA in the Asahi Super Dry Pacific Nations Cup this Saturday. The game is set to kick off at 10:05 p.m. Fiji time at the iconic Chichibu Memorial Stadium in Tokyo, Japan.
The Flying Fijians enter the semi-finals as Pool A leaders, following a series of strong performances, and will face the USA, who finished as runners-up in Pool B. Meanwhile, Japan, the top team from Pool B, will go head-to-head with Samoa in the second semi-final on Sunday, September 15, at the same venue, with kickoff scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
After securing an impressive win over Tonga, the Fijians returned to Nadi for a brief rest and preparation. Fortunately, no major injuries have been reported, though the team will miss centre Adrea Cocagi, who was handed a four-game suspension due to a red card in the Tonga match.
Despite this setback, head coach Mick Byrne remains optimistic about his squad’s capabilities. Reflecting on their progress, Byrne commented after the Tonga match, “I don’t know whether there’s a ceiling for growth in this squad, as they’re a very talented team.”
This statement underscores his belief that the Flying Fijians still have untapped potential heading into the semi-finals.
