There’ll be a new Fijiana women’s rugby sevens coach at the start of 2025.

This was after Fiji Rugby Union interim Trustees chairman Peter Mazey said yesterday that a new head coach will be appointed for the women’s sevens team for the 2025 HSBC SVNS Series. This was after Saiasi Fuli’s contract as head coach ends in December.

“After a long discussion we’ve had with Saiasi Fuli, we’ve decided to advertise the position of head coach,” Mazey said. “The position will be advertised in the media next week or so.”

Mazey said FRU is now searching for the best candidate to lead the women’s team into the next phase.

“The new coach will be tasked to initiate and implement a high-performance strategy moving forward to get a new team selected,” he said.

“All our women sevens players’ contract has expired after the Olympics for the exception of Younis Bese and Heleina Young who are still on right to the end of the year.”

Fuli acknowledged FRU for allowing him the opportunity for him to coach the national women’s sevens team.

“It was quite a challenging task coming from a men’s coaching background. I was the assistant coach to Gareth Baber when I was called in to guide this team from relegation and those five years was a challenging and interesting journey.”

Kolinisau stays on

Meanwhile, Osea Kolinisau will continue his role as the Fiji men’s sevens rugby team head coach for the next four years, as confirmed by Mazey.

“Osea’s impressive results over the past four months have demonstrated his capability and vision for the future,” he said.

“He has major plans moving forward, which he will share in due course.”

Mazey said Kolinisau’s main KPI (Key Performance Indicator) is a gold medal win at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028
