Just In: “I’ve never Coached a Team with as Much Talent as the Flying Fijians”~ Mick Byrne

I have never coached any team with so many talents like the Flying Fijians – Byrne

Fiji Water Flying Fijians coach Mick Byrne admitted that he has never coached a team with so many talents like the Flying Fijians and he hopes that they continue to grow as a team across the park.

During the post-match interview after their 22-3 win over the USA Eagles in the Asahi Super Dry Pacific Nations Cup semi final last night, Byrne says one of the reasons why he took up the Flying Fijians coaching role is because they are a unique rugby team.

He says one of the things that he would like to continue to grow is the team’s ability to play with patience and stay within their systems, continue to play their game and improve all the time.

Byrne says there are some great players up in the northern hemisphere that are being drilled really hard by some good teams and they have got the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua players that are working each week and learning how to sort of control their initial emotions to just keep playing and keep throwing the ball.

He says while the team wants to harness that, they also have to learn how to play a little bit more of a physical game up front.

Samoa will take on Japan at 6.05pm this evening at Prince Chichibu Memorial Rugby Stadium in Japan.
