Boston Celtics guard Derrick White got into a heated altercation during Saturday’s rivalry matchup between Colorado and Colorado State. On Monday, footage from the incident spread like wildfire on social media.
TMZ Sports posted the video on their official X account. In the clip, White was seen just barely dodging a blow directed at his head from what appeared to be a Colorado State supporter. The strike didn’t land but did knock a cap off of White’s head.
While White, a Colorado alumnus, didn’t appear to take any damage, it took several people to calm him down. It remains unclear what sparked the argument between the Celtics guard and the fan.
White is widely seen as one of the most soft-spoken players in the NBA. His rise from Division II standout to borderline All-Star last season has been well-documented. Given how heated White looked, one can only imagine what kind of words were exchanged between him and the man who delivered the blow.
The Celtics veteran was a key cog in the team’s title run last season. He averaged 15.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game.
White’s calling card, however, is his defense. He averaged 1.0 steals and an absurd 1.2 blocks per game, which earned him a few Defensive Player of the Year votes.
