Final Farewell: Flying Fijians Stars Risk Careers In Bold Stand against Fiji Rugby

Radradra says they might not play for Fiji again because they spoke out while Mazey says the Board doesn’t select the team

Former Fiji Water Flying Fijians midfielder, Semi Radradra, has expressed concerns that he and other players who have spoken out against Fiji Rugby may have played their final games for the national team. Radradra believes that by voicing their grievances, they are potentially sacrificing their careers.

Despite the players’ apprehensions, Fiji Rugby’s Interim Chair, Peter Mazey, clarified that the selection of players for any Fiji rugby team, whether in the 7s or 15s format, is entirely in the hands of the Head Coach and his technical staff. Mazey emphasized that the Board of Trustees and the Fiji Rugby leadership have no influence over team selection decisions.

Mazey went on to address the situation, reminding the players of their professional obligations under their contracts. He acknowledged that frustrations have surfaced within the squad and emphasized that these concerns must be addressed in a timely and transparent manner.

An investigation is already underway to thoroughly examine the issues raised by the players. Mazey assured that both the Trustees and Fiji Rugby leadership share the players’ concerns and are committed to resolving them. The outcome of this investigation will determine the future of these players within the team.
