Michael Maguire Takes the Helm: Broncos’ New Coach Vows to Lead Club Back to Glory!
Michael Maguire has officially been named the head coach of the Brisbane Broncos, with a determined focus on restoring the club to its former glory. Previously the coach of the NSW Blues, Maguire was widely tipped to take on the Broncos role following the departure of Kevin Walters.
In an interview with NRL media, Maguire expressed his excitement for the opportunity. “Opportunities like this don’t come around often,” he said. “I’m a career coach, and I love the day-to-day grind. My last campaign with the Blues was an incredible experience, but I’m someone who thrives on the daily challenges of club coaching.”
Maguire made it clear that his goal is to bring a championship back to Brisbane, though he wouldn’t commit to a specific timeline. “I’m extremely hungry to win another competition,” he said. “I’m in a rush, like everyone at the Broncos. We all want success, and I’ll be working every single day to ensure we improve.”
Although he has yet to meet most of the squad, Maguire has already built relationships with key players, including Adam Reynolds, who played under him in South Sydney’s 2014 premiership-winning team. Maguire also has high praise for Broncos star Payne Haas, whose leadership qualities he witnessed firsthand during his time coaching the NSW Blues.
One player Maguire is eager to work with is Reece Walsh, the Broncos’ electrifying fullback. Known for his attacking brilliance, Walsh has occasionally struggled with defensive consistency. Maguire plans to help Walsh refine his game while also emphasizing the importance of the team’s collective success. “It’s not just about one player,” he noted. “We’re a team, and there will be standards we all lift to.”
With the offseason ahead, Maguire looks forward to meeting his players and preparing for the challenges to come, eager to guide the Broncos back to the top.
