Breaking: “Never Forgotten”: 5-Year Taunt Comes ‘Back to Haunt Storm Star In Grand Final

‘Never forgotten’: Five-year sledge comes ‘back to bite’ Storm star in GF booing drama

Storm halfback Jahrome Hughes was involved in an ugly booing drama with Panthers fans with long memories after a five-year video came back to bite the Dally M star.

Hughes has been booed mercilessly by Panthers fans during a devastating post-match interview after his side’s 14-6 Grand Final loss to the Panthers.

Days after taking out the game’s highest individual honour, Hughes looked devastated as he tried to sum up his team’s Grand Final heartbreak to a chorus of boos from Penrith fans.

The Ladies Who League X account slammed the Panthers fans social media.

“The crowd booing Jahrome Hughes is surprising. I don’t like it,” the author told her 12,000 followers.

“Why are people booing Storm players? If my team won a Grand Final I would be too busy crying and vomiting.”

However, the origins of the Panthers’ fans boos can be traced back to the Storm’s 2020 Grand Final celebrations.

Hughes appeared to mock the Mt Druitt upbringing of several Penrith players in a video in the aftermath of the Storm’s title win that season.

The video was deleted, but former Panthers assistant coach Cameron Ciraldo reportedly showed it to Penrith players as motivation.

Prop Moses Leota said this week: “We did take it personally”.

It seems Penrith fans have not forgotten nor have they forgiven Hughes for the incident.

One fan posted: “I think the lesson here is to be humble in success. Hughes’ dig at Western Sydney came back to bite him tonight”.

Another posted: “He made disparaging comments about Mt Druitt years ago and they have NEVER forgotten it”.

Despite the boos Hughes chose to praise the Panthers after their fourth straight title.

“Yeah. A tough game, obviously,” Hughes said.

“They’re a great team. They’ve been the best for the past couple years for a reason. They just stay in the fight.

“They’re the best. We’ve seen that over the last couple years. They’re so hard to beat. You need to be on your game for the full 80 minutes to beat them and if you’re not they’re too good and they showed that tonight.”

Hughes believes the Storm needed to be more dominant physically in the tackle to compete with the Panthers.

“Just a bit loose in our contact,” Hughes explained.

“They got too many quick play-the-balls and you can’t give a team like Penrith that.”
