Mile Svilar, the goalkeeper, is supposedly available, and Liverpool has enquired about this with Italian powerhouse Roma. After spending a few seasons on the team’s fringe, the 25-year-old Serbian international has emerged as the Giallorossi’s clear top pick for the 2024–25 campaign, unseating Rui Patricio in the process. Svilar was Roma’s first option in goal during their long run in the Europa League last season, and he has maintained three clean sheets in his first seven Serie A games of the new campaign. The young player, who was born in Belgium and went through the Anderlecht development system, has played for the Italian powerhouses on a free transfer in 2022 after leaving Benfica. He has a total of 44 clean sheets to his name.

Svilar’s contract with Roma is still valid for three more years, but as per AS Roma Live, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Newcastle United are now monitoring his circumstances. Ederson nearly left Man City for Saudi Arabia in the summer, but the Brazilian decided to stay, even though his long-term future is still very much up in the air. Svilar would be a significantly younger option than the seasoned combination of Newcastle’s first-choice Nick Pope and Liverpool’s top player Alisson Becker, who are both in their 30s. Nevertheless, Roma has reportedly placed a price tag of between €35 million (£29.3 million) and €40 million (£33.5 million) on the head of their best goalie because they are under little pressure to allow the Serbian leave.

If he keeps getting better, Roma would also be in a good position to demand more, but if Svilar is interested in a summer transfer, Liverpool and Newcastle are rumoured to have sought for “preliminary information” through middlemen. Though he is reportedly “very happy” in Serie A, the former Benfica player would only think about leaving if the offer was too good to turn down for both him and the team.

It’s not unusual for goalkeepers to travel from Roma to Liverpool and succeed greatly there; after all, Alisson achieved legendary status on the same route six years prior. However, the Brazilian is currently plagued by a growing number of injuries, and his most recent hamstring strain is predicted to keep him out of action for about six weeks. Given his ties to Saudi Arabia, a departure in 2025 is therefore not completely out of the question; however, Liverpool has already made plans for his departure with the signing of Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Everyone believes that the Georgia international will eventually take the starting position at Anfield, but Svilar might have to settle for a supporting role, particularly if Alisson and Caoimhin Kelleher depart before the summer is out. The Roma player may therefore choose to transfer to a Premier League team that can guarantee him playing time, or he may choose to remain at Stadio Olimpico and continue his development in Italy for an additional year or two.
