Bucks interested in trading MarJon Beauchamp and re-signing Thanasis Antetokounmpo
It could be the beginning of the end for MarJon Beauchamp’s time with the Milwaukee Bucks. Per Jake Fischer, the Bucks have informed teams that they are interested in trading the former 2022 first-round pick.
Keith Smith of Sportrac later added that the Bucks’ interest in moving on from the G-League Ignite product would be to open up a roster spot and bring in locker room favorite Thanasis Antetkounmpo for that final spot. While Thanasis won’t be able to play this year because of his torn Achilles tendon he suffered during the off-season, Smith said the Bucks and his brother Giannis value his presence in the locker room.
Beauchamp is entering his third season in the league and has career averages of 4.8 PPG and 2.1 RPG while shooting 43.3% from the field and 35.5% from the three-point line. The trade interest four days before the Bucks tip-off against the Philadelphia 76ers makes a lot of sense considering that Beauchamp’s fourth-year option deadline is October 31, giving the receiving team enough time to evaluate whether or not they want to accept that option. It does track with GM Jon Horst giving a non-committal answer about Beauchamp’s fourth-year option back at Media Day.
“(I’m looking for) continued growth, he’s put in a lot of time, and he works really hard. MarJon has had many moments in his first two years playing with us where he looked the part, he performed, and helped this team win,” Horst said. “At the end of the day, we want players on our roster that are going to help our team win and he’s done that, he just has to show the consistency and he’s working really hard at that.”
We’ll continue to monitor the situation and let you know what happens with MarJon and whether Thanasis will get the last guaranteed spot heading into the year.
